Continuing from last week, Israel had 12 sons including Joseph.  Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons.

When the eleven brothers realized that their father (Israel) loved Joseph more than any of them, they hated him
and could not speak a kind word to him.

One day, Joseph had a dream and he told it to his brothers.

Genesis 37:8  His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us?  Will you actually rule us?”  And they hat-
ed him all the more.

Joseph’s brothers were so jealous that they plotted to kill him.  In the desert, they stripped Joseph of his robe
and threw him into a cistern (large pot for water).  They sold him to a caravan of Ishmaelites (Midianites), who
took him to Egypt.

The brothers slaughtered a goat and dipped Joseph’s robe in the blood.  They gave the robe to their father, lead-
ing him to believe that Joseph is dead.

Genesis 37:36  Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain
of the guard.

Years later, the Pharaoh of Egypt had several dreams.  No one could interpret his dreams.  Not the magicians
nor the wise men of Egypt could interpret his dreams.

The Pharaoh of Egypt sent for Joseph.

Next week, how Joseph gained favor with the Pharaoh that eventually led to the 12 tribes of Israel.

Thank you so much for reading.  God bless.
