Fantastic sun rays striking through clouds. Graphic effects are applied for a more dramatic image

Last week we read that God made a covenant with Abram that he will be the father of many nations.  God
even changed Abrams name to Abraham which means “father of a multitude.”

The following scriptures describe this covenant in more detail.

Genesis 17:10  This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep:  Every
male among you shall be circumcised.

Genesis 17:11  For the generations to come, every male among you who is eight days old must be circum-
cised.

Circumcision is the cutting off the foreskin at the tip of the male sexual organ.  This was a sign that these people
followed and worshipped God alone and not false gods or idols.  It was a token of their covenant membership. To
mark the beginning of the covenant solidarity to Abrahams descendants.

Next week we will read why Noah was not considered the father of many nations and Abraham was.  Noah and his
family were the first to follow God after the flood when all humans were destroyed.

Thank you so much for reading.  God bless.

Jeff
