Last week we read that Noah also brought seven of every kind of clean animal into the ark.

Again, let’s review the following scripture.

Genesis 7:2-3  Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every
kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep
their various kinds alive.

As the scripture states, only two of the unclean animals, a male and its mate, came to the ark.  The unclean
animals were the majority of the animals and only two of them were needed to reproduce themselves.

The seven clean animals, male and its mate, were needed to reproduce themselves, but also were
needed to fulfill the ceremonial burnt offerings to God.  This is evident in the following scripture.

Genesis 8:20  Then (after the waters receded) Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of the clean
animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings to it (on the altar).

Now the question becomes, does seven clean animals mean one male, one female plus 5 more or does it mean
seven pairs or fourteen in total?

Most translations read seven pairs or seven and seven.  Because of this, I tend to believe there was seven pairs or
fourteen of every kind of clean animal and clean bird.

Next week we will read which animals and which birds were considered clean.

Thank you so much for reading.  God bless.
