What is the actual point of salvation?  Let’s begin by examining how believers were saved before the time of Jesus.

The answer to this question will get slightly complicated.  I hope you bare with me through this chapter.

To explain when the point of salvation takes place, we must first explain sin.  What is sin?

1 John 5:17  ALL WRONG DOING IS SIN.

Here, wrong doing is according to God’s standard of what is wrong, not man’s standard.  Man’s standard is
always changing.

1 John 3:4  Everyone who sins breaks the law, in fact SIN IS LAWLESSNESS.

Sin is breaking God’s law, not man’s law.  God’s standard is much higher.

God gave man the law (Ten Commandments) so we would know his standard.  So man would know what sin is
(wrong doing) and avoid it.  For example, people would not know that “coveting” is sin if the law did not say
“Do not covet.”

Here are the main laws of God.  They were given to Moses on two tablets and known as the Ten Commandments.

1.  You shall have no other god before me.
2.  You shall not make for yourself an idol.  Not bowing down to or worshipping an idol.
3.  You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
4.  Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Six days you should labor, but the seventh day do not work.
5.  Honor your father and your mother.
6.  You shall not murder.
7.  You shall not commit adultery.
8.  You shall not steal.
9.  You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
10.  You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Next week, we will read if anyone is able to keep these laws completely.

Thank you so much for reading.  God bless.

Jeff
