What is tithing?  Does God say that each believer should give 10% of their income to the church?

Most people agree that a TITHE MEANS TEN PERCENT.  But ten percent of what?  Let’s read some old test-
ament verses that were meant for the original twelve tribes of Israel.  The tribes that Moses lead out of
bondage and into the promised land.

Leviticus 27:30  A TITHE OF EVERYTHING FROM THE LAND, whether GRAIN from the soil or FRUIT from
the trees, belongs to the Lord;  it is holy to the Lord.

Leviticus 27:32  The ENTIRE TITHE OF THE HERD AND FLOCK-  every tenth ANIMAL under the shepherds
rod-  will be holy to the Lord.

Nehemiah 13:12  All Judah brought the TITHE OF GRAIN, NEW WINE AND OIL into the storerooms.

Judah was one of the original twelve tribes that came to the promised land.  Once settled, Judah was the
southern kingdom south of Israel.

2 Chronicles 31:5  As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the FIRSTFRUITS of their
GRAIN, NEW WINE, OIL and HONEY and all that the fields produced.

Nehemiah 10:37  Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests the first
of our GROUND MEAL, of our GRAIN offerings, of the FRUIT of our trees and of our NEW WINE and OIL.

We have just read scripture that refers to the TITHE as the THE FIRSTFRUITS (THE FIRST TEN PERCENT)
OF EVERYTHING FROM THE ISRAELITE LAND.  THE GRAIN, FRUIT, WINE, OLIVE OIL, etc.  Also, the TITHE
refers to TEN PERCENT OF THE ISRAELITE ANIMALS.  THEIR HERDS AND FLOCKS.

Next week, we will get even more specific about the tithe.

Thanks you so much for reading.  God bless.
