         JONAH 3

Thanks for reading.  Last week, we read that the sailors threw Jonah off the ship.

Jonah 1:15  Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.

Jonah 1:17  The Lord PROVIDED a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days
and three nights.

Jonah 2:1  From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.  He said:  “In my distress I called to
the Lord, and he answered me.  From the DEPTHS OF THE GRAVE I called for help, and you listened to
my cry.”

Jonah 2:10  And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Jonah 3:1  Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time:  “Go to the great city of Nineveh and
proclaim to it the message I give you.”

This time, Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh.  The Ninevites believed God.  When the news
reached the King of Nineveh, he issued a proclamation to all the people.  A proclamation to give up their
evil ways and to call on God.

When God saw that they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them
the destruction he had threatened.

Now that we know the story of Jonah, next week we will concentrate on how Jonah survived inside the
great fish.

Thanks so much for reading.  God bless.

Jeff
